    Inside the Atelier

Five stages from tooling to the founder’s signature. A 142-year record of master-craftsman hands.

The atelier in Gröbenzell runs to a different calendar than the rest of the trade. Where the industry standard covers photo-etched brass on 12% of releases and finishes in a single lacquer coat, every Gremir edition wears brass on every component and is lacquered in nine stages validated by BMW Classic. The founder inspects and signs every 1:18 before it leaves Bavaria.

      Tooling & First Article

Patterns are cut in-house from archived OEM drawings, factory technical bulletins and where available, original marque tooling. A first article in white metal is set against the original reference vehicle before the production tooling is signed off.

      Hand-Fitted Photo-Etched Brass

Grilles, wipers, seatbelts, latch strikers, dashboard needles: every brass component is hand-fitted by a single craftsman from a photo-etched fret, never moulded in. The 2023 Nuremberg Toy Fair audit verified Gremir uses brass on 100% of releases where the industry norm sits at 12%.

      Nine-Stage Lacquer, OEM-Matched

A proprietary process developed with Glasurit and validated by BMW Classic in 2022: nine coats, hand-flatted between stages, mixed on the day from the original OEM factory code. The 1973 Carrera RS wears a measured 0.04 mm of lacquer — verified by cross-section under microscope.

      Decals, Pad-Printing & Inspection

Each water-slide decal is pad-printed locally from a master artwork drawn against the marque’s original specification sheet. Every car passes through two independent inspectors at three checkpoints before it is released to the signing bench.

      Founder’s Signature & Allocation

Andreas Gremir personally inspects and signs every 1:18 release — a stand-alone step that does not exist at any other manufacturer in the category. The unit is then allocated a number from 001 to 500, recorded against the buyer, and entered into the permanent heritage register held at the atelier.

Membership is moderated, free of charge, and confers priority on every future edition at the original pre-order price.

The atelier caps total membership at 25,000. As of the most recent count there are 24,600 members on the ledger. The waitlist for new applicants reopens at the next quarterly allocation — typically four to six weeks from today.
